Self confidence is huge for an artist. Is that something you developed early on or something you had to work toward?
I definitely think I had a lot of self confidence growing up. I feel like growing up I was taught to believe that I could literally do anything. That was so exciting and so empowering. I never thought there was something that I couldn't try or couldn't do, nothing was off limits. I definitely had that internal self confidence in me, built in me, and instilled in me growing up, which I think was really wonderful. However, at the same time when you're trying something new, that self confidence is not so strong. It's scary to try something new. It's hard and you don't know if you're gonna fail. I feel like being an artist and doing something creative, you're trying new things every single day. Sometimes you may do something that you know you can do and that's amazing because it's going to turn out great. But everyday, you're also going to try things that you don't know what the end result might be. It could go really well, or it could go really poorly. For example, with painting, you could pick an object that you've never painted before, and you could really really struggle with that subject. I did a little study on painting clouds and then most recently painting flowers and learning how to paint petals and that was a lot more difficult than I thought it would be. I spent a lot of time in the studio just practicing and practicing how to make petals and how to make the colors blend correctly and bring the flower to life off the page. It wasn't something where I tried it once and then it was great. I did have the self confidence to at least try it and to try something new. That goes to even bigger aspects of the business because as a business owner, you don't just make the product, you also do the marketing, you do the sales, you do the website. You do every single aspect of the business and you're trying new things everyday to see what works and you're running a lot of tests. I think that's especially where self confidence is key because you do want to try new things because you never know what might work but if you're too scared to try it, then you'll never even know.
